Beginning in 2018, Industrial Light and Magic Studio pioneered an idea that revolutionized the film industry. The Mandalorian began production using rear projected LED walls, replacing the traditional green screen environment.
Through receiving visual cues, actors gave better performances, leading to fewer retakes. Post-production composition and rendering lessened as the director could now see scenes in real-time. In 2021, The Mandalorian walked away with 7 Emmys, including the Outstanding Special Effects award.

In the fall of 2021, Deep Dive’s video production students got their first glimpses into the LED video wall filmmaking future. This boot camp-style program installed an 85-inch LED panel to help students understand the functionality of this technology in filmmaking.
This made Deep Dive’s students the first film students in the state to use LED video walls for learning and film production. By giving students the edge in using this technology, they’ll be better prepared to advance in our booming film industry!
